Field Practice is led by James Woodcock, an architect and engineer with 15 years’ experience across residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.

James established Field Practice after leading the Technical division at Citu, an innovative low-carbon housing developer operating across Yorkshire. His career spans work with industry-leading practices: pioneering Passivhaus projects at Architype, delivering award-winning infrastructure with Webb Yates Engineers, and contributing to the redevelopment of BBC Television Centre while at Arup.

James completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield, with postgraduate studies at London Metropolitan University and The Bartlett at University College London. He currently leads a design studio on the Masters Architecture course at the University of Sheffield, where his students have received nominations for the RIBA Silver Medal and the AJ Student Prize.

Beyond practice, James serves as a trustee of South Yorkshire-based charity Arts Catalyst.

Every successful building emerges from effective collaboration. Field Practice works with an established network of trusted specialists — from surveying to sustainable construction — supporting clients in achieving quality outcomes at each stage of their project.
